STONEWORK & MASONRY

I started my career in stonemasonry in 2000 as a labourer. I started my first job as a stonemason on September 11 2001.

Where were you on 9/11? Me - Quail Rise, starting my first day working for Graeme Glover, stone cladding a new build, overlooking the Shotover River in Queenstown.

Back then there were no qualifications and no training. I decided to work for many different masons to gain as much knowledge and experience as I could. As of 2024 I have worked for 23 different Masons. Most of my career I’ve been an independant contractor. I’ve worked with many types of stone, from Schist to Granite, from Otago to Auckland.

From 2000 to 2011 I completed many stone carvings, worked on many multi million dollar projects and created foundations, landscapes, walls, fireplaces, entranceways, staircases, courtyard features and paving masterpieces.

In November 2011 I started a two and a half year project building my current employers’ house. This involved excavation, stone pillars, outdoor fire, traditional pizza oven, stone edging, feature boulders and building walls, courtyards, alcoves, gardens, entrances and pathways with monolithic stones and heavy machinery.

From 2014 I moved to Christchurch to for the earthquake rebuild which involved a wide variety of consulting and (mostly masonry) rebuild / repair jobs. During this time I refined old skills and learnt and qualified in new ones, including welding, waterproofing, brick & block laying, cobblestoning and civil constuction work.

When the earthquake repair work slowly finished it was back to house cladding, walling and artistic masonry.

Due to someone breaking into my storage locker and swiping my hard drives, I can show you very little of anything from before 2019.

So here’s what little I can show you.

Hope you like my work.
